Is whey protein concentrate halal?

Whey protein as a derivative of cow’s milk is in itself halal. However, the actual halal status of any specific whey protein concentrate will depend on the process involved in separating the whey from the milk and therafter filtering it. This is because the factor of contamination can occur during the process. Therefore, there can be no general ruling with regards to the halal status of the whey protein concentrate contained in any product. For the halal status of the whey protein concentrate in any product, it is necessary that a research be conducted into the procedures involved in extracting the whey protein contained in that specific product.
