Placing the Index Finger on the Thigh after the Tashahhud

Q: Salaah-731: There has arisen a difference of opinion here concerning whether the index finger is to be placed on the thigh after the Tashahhud or kept up, Please clarify.

Answer: The strongest opinion is that when reciting the Kalimah in the Tashahhud, the two small fingers of the right hand are to be folded in, a ring is to be made with the thumb and middle finger and then the index finger raised. This is done when reciting (LAA ILAAHA) and then dropped when reciting? (ILALALLAAH) This formation is then to be maintained until the end of the salaah.t This has also been stated by Hadhrat Mufti Kifayatullaah RAH. in Ta'leemul Islaam (Vol.3 Pg.60), by Hadhrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi RAH. in his Behisti Zewar (Vol. 2 Pg.79) as well as Umdatul Fiqh (Vol.2 Pg. 11). And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
