Question

This humble servant of Allah would like to ask the following question related to kufr:

Some years ago my understanding of Deen and the Sifaat of Allah subhanuwataala was flawed and I used to utter words that I am really ashamed of now. I know that ignorance in matters of Deen will not be considered an excuse. One such statement which I had made has been bothering me for some time. During one of the days when the wind was blowing with great force accompanied by rain I had said that ?Allah has switched on the fans and showers in the heaven and forgotten to turn them off?. I attributed a quality of forgetfulness that is found in human beings to Allah subhanwataala. Am I guilty of kufr?

If yes, then I understand that I have to renew my nikah in front of two witnesses. Can these witnesses me my uncle or male cousins? What would be the status of my children born until now?

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

It is absolutely essential for a Muslim to always be mindful of All?h Ta'?l? and His absolute knowledge of everything.? All?h Ta'?l? says in the Qur'?n:

And indeed, We have created man and We know what his soul whispers to him.? And we are nearer to him than his jugular vein.? (Remember) that the two (recording angels) receive (each human being), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his/her actions).? Not a (single) word does he/she utter except that there is a watcher by him ready (to record it) (Qur'?n 50:16-18).

If a person ponders over these verses and regularly reminds himself of it, it will help him be cautious of what words come out of his mouth.? Especially when the words are regarding All?h Ta'?l?, one must exercise the utmost caution and respect.

Having understood that, your saying that All?h Ta'?l? has "forgotten to turn them off" will not constitute kufr as you did not have the intention to commit kufr nor did you believe that All?h Ta'?l? has the quality of forgetfulness.? Rather, your words will be interpreted to mean that All?h Ta'?l? did the act similar to that of a person who forgot, but not that All?h Ta'?l? actually forgot.

To utter such words is to dangerously walk on the fine line between ?m?n and kufr.? In addition to tawbah, it is recommended to recite the following du'? in the morning and night to help protect oneself from falling into such predicaments:
