Q: 241 ? Title: I wanted to know that if a person prays to ALLAH ALMIGHTY for some of his work which he wants to be done by the grace of ALLAH ALMIGHTY and he commits that if the work is done for him he will say certain big no.

Question

I wanted to know that if a person prays to ALLAH ALMIGHTY for some of his work which he wants to be done by the grace of ALLAH ALMIGHTY and he commits that if the work is done for him he will say certain big no. of Nafil Namaz, and then if his work is completed and he is not able to say those Nafil namaz, is there any kaffara which he can give instead of praying those Nafil namaz ? For example if he by chance commits to say Nafil namaz in thousand and now he is not able to pray that much, can he give any kind of kaffara instead of those Nafil Namaz ? Walikum Asalam

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

If the person only makes this intention in his mind but never actually mentions it with his tongue, then the nafl prayers are not binding on him [i].

However, if he had uttered the words of this vow, then all the nafl prayers, even if in the thousands, will become binding on him [ii].? He may not substitute these with any form of kaff?rah [iii].? Insh?All?h, he may do only a few nafl prayers each day and do it over a period until he completes all of them.? However, it is better for him to try to finish them quicker [iv].
