Reciting the Durood when the Imaam recites the verse: INNAL LAAH..

Q: Salaah-281 : There is conflict taking place here because when the Imaam recites the verse INNALAAH WAMALA IKTAHU YUSALLUN ALANNABI? in the Khutbah. Should the audience recite Durood or remain silent? What is best? The conflict will be resolved by your response.

Answer: It is best to remain silent or to recite Durood in the heart and not With the tongue. Reciting audibly is not permissible. Kabeeri (pg.560) states. "According to Imaam Abu Haneefah RAH. and Imaam Muhammad RAH. people should remain silent when the Imaam recites the verse: INNAL LAAH WAMLAA IKATAHU YUSALLUN ALAN NABI.? Hadhrat Imaam Abu yusuf RAH. is of the opinion that it should be recited in the heart and it is this opinion that many of our pious predecessors have adopted. However, the majoity have opted for the opinion stating that silence be maintained and Kitaabul Hujjah cites this opinion."

Durrul Mukhtaar states, "The correct practice is to recite Durood in the heart when the name of Rasulullaah SAW. taken in the Khutbah." Shaami (Vol.1 pg.768) states that it is not permissible to recite Durpod loudly (during the Khutbah) but in the heart and it is according to this that the Fatwaa is issued. There is no difference of opinion in this matter between the Deobandi and Berelwi ulema and Bihaare shari'ah (Vol.4 Pg.100) also states that it is not permissible to recite Durood loudly (during the Khutbah) but in the heart. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
